Biography

Sam Kahanamoku was the brother of Hawai’ian swim legend [Duke Kahanamoku]. Competing against his brother and [Johnny Weissmuller], Sam Kahanamoku was never able to win a national title. The highlight of his career was his bronze medal in the 100 freestyle at the 1924 Olympics in Paris. Like his brother, he was one of the pioneers of surfing, and he was also known for his singing voice. Kahanamoku had plans to study medicine at Stanford but that apparently did not occur.
