Biography

Kristine Karlson rowed collegiately at Williams College, and in 1993 was given the Williams College Bicentennial Medal, given to “honor members of the Williams community for distinguished achievement in any field of endeavor." In addition to her Olympic appearance, she was a three-time World Champion in rowing. After college, she attended medical school at the University of Connecticut, and she competed at the 1992 Olympics while doing her residency in family medicine at the St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. She then did a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at the University of Michigan. Karlson later practiced primary care sports medicine at Dartmouth Medical Center. She continued to row, winning the Head of the Charles regatta in 1998, and she has served as a US team physician at the 2007 Pan-American Games and the 2008 Olympic Games.
