Biography

Drahomír Kadlec had an itinerant career. He started in Czechoslovakia playing for TJ Poldi SONP Kladno, but moved to HC Dukla Jihlava in 1986. He returned to TJ Poldi SONP in 1988, but moved to the Finnish leagues in 1990, playing for three years with HIFK Helsinki. In 1993 he returned to the Czech Republic, playing part of a season with TJ Poldi SONP Kladno, but moved in mid-season to Germany, and then played for four years with ESV Kaufbeuren. From 1997-99 he was with three different teams in the Czech Republic as well as a short stint again with ESV Kaufbeuren, before he moved back to Finland, playing part of the 1999-2000 season with Tappara Tampere. Kadlec then played three seasons in Germany with EC Bad Tölz, before playing his final three seasons in Italy with HC Egna, retiring after the 2006 season. Kadlec never played in the National Hockey League (NHL), but was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 12th round of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft.

Internationally Kadlec represented Czechoslovakia or the Czech Republic multiple times. He first played for Czechoslovakia at the 1985 World Junior Championships. In addition to his two Olympic appearances, he competed at six World Championships (1987, 1989, 1992-94, 1996), winning bronze medals at Worlds in 1987, 1989, 1992, and 1993. He also played at the 1988 Canada Cup, and the 1996 World Cup.
