Better known as a 200 m runner prior to the Olympics, Pam Jiles was a surprise choice for the 4×400 m relay, but a 51.3 leg in the final fully justified her selection. She ran for Dillard University, the New Orleans Super Dames, and later for [LSU] and, although she never won an AAU title, she was the 100 m champion at the 1975 Pan American Games where she also finished second in the 200 m and was on the winning 4×100 metres relay team (with Brenda Morehead, Chandra Cheeseborough, and Martha Watson).

Personal Bests: 100 – 11.31 (1976); 200 – 22.81 (1975); 400 – 52.64 (1977).
