Biography

Birgit Jerschabek came in 15th at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic marathon. She competed in the 1993, 1995 and 1997 World Championship marathons, but did not finish each time. She finished 16th in the 10K at the 1990 European Championships. In 1990, Jerschabek won the last East German title over 15 km, and after reunification won the first German one in 1991. She then also claimed titles in 1993 and 1997 in the half-marathon and in the 1993 marathon in 1993.

Jerschabek had success at several city marathons – 1990 Berlin (8th), 1992 Hannover (winner), 1993 Osaka (9th), 1995 Nagoya (8th) and Lissabon (winner), 1997 Hamburg (runner-up), and 1998 Frankfurt (5th). In 1999 she retired and later moved with her husband Roy Keipke and their daughter to Rendsburg in Northern Germany.

Personal Best\: Mar – 2-28:02 (1995).
