Biography

Charles January was one of the January brothers, who competed in football (soccer) at the 1904 Olympics. “Hicks" January briefly minor league baseball. He later moved to McAllen, Texas where he ran a haberdashery and also served as the postmaster of McAllen. He had a daughter, Lois January, who became a motion picture actress, appearing in, among many other films, “The Wizard of Oz.” In the 1930s she was well known for playing the female lead in many low-budget westerns.
