Don Hume attended the University of Washington and was the stroke-oar for their eight that won the IRA Regatta, the Olympic Trials, and the Olympic Games in 1936. In World War II he served in the Merchant Marine. After the war he had a career in oil and gas exploration, which involved a significant amount of travel, and he never married. He later became president of the West Coast Mining Association.
