Biography

Former East German hurdler Ulf Hielscher quickly turned to bobsledding as he had little success in track and field. He then won a bronze medal at Lillehammer in 1994 with pilot Wolfgang Hoppe, René Hannemann and brakeman Carsten Embach and also earned the World and the European Championship title one year later. After a silver medal at the 1996 European Championships Hielscher retired from sport.
