Biography

Very little is known about Georg Hilmar, whose name is also seen as Hillmar, but his name is seen with a single l on a postcard he sent from Athens. Hilmar was only a substitute for the German gymnastics team, replacing the injured Richard Gadebusch two days before they left for Greece. Hilmar was born in the autumn of 1876, and likely died before 1936, as he was not invited to the 1936 Olympics, when all German Olympic champions were honoured.
