Biography

West German former sprinter Olaf Hampel turned to bobsledding in the late 1980s. In 1988 he placed 14th with the West German four-man bob and after German reunification claimed two gold medals with pilots [Harald Czudaj] in 1994 and [Christoph Langen] in 1998. Beside these victories he was also World Champion 1995 in the two-man and 1996 in the four-man. In 1996 he also won in both bob events at the European Championships. Hampel was educated as a mechanical engineer.
