Biography

Born in New Zealand of Tongan parentage, the appearance of Ma'afu Hawke in the Oceanian qualifying tournament sparked controversy as he had previously fought professionally in both Muay Thai kick-boxing and in mixed martial arts bouts under the name “Doug Viney”. He was convincingly outpointed by the USA’s Jason Estrada in his first round super-heavyweight bout in Athens. Hawke has since returned to the world of mixed martial arts and won the 2007 K-1 tournament in Las Vegas.
