Fourth place at the Final Trials earned Art Harnden of Texas A&M a place on the 1948 Olympic relay team. He ran a 48.0 opening leg in the final, which put the U.S. into a lead they held to the tape. Harnden had a career best of 47.3 for 400 m in placing third in the 1948 NCAA.
