Representing the Meadowbrook Club of Philadelphia, Irene Guest placed third in the 100 m freestyle at the U.S. Olympic Trials in 1920. At the Games she won her heat in 1:18.8 and, although she made a nearly two-second improvement in the final, she could not match Ethelda Bleibtrey's new world record of 1:13.6. Four days later, Guest joined with Bleibtrey, Frances Schroth, and Peggy Woodbridge to win the relay with a new world record. |
