Edgard Gijsen had the following podium finishes at major championships: 2nd in the 1959 Pan American Games coxless pairs (with the non-Olympian Milton Bruno Meurer), 3rd in the 1963 Pan American Games double sculls (with Francisco Todesco), 1st in the 1971 Pan American Games double sculls (with Harri Klein).
