Biography

Carl Oscar Simon Gate was a painter, graphic designer, glass artist, and book illustrator and portraitist. Together with his colleague Edward Hald and glassblower Knut Bergqvist he invented the so-called Graal glass (goblet glass). He and Hald also were prominent at the 1925 Paris World Exhibition, which was the international breakthrough for both of them. They also developed the Swedish variant of Art Deco.
