Fred Flannery had the following podium finishes at major championships: 2nd in the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games Flyweight (-52 kg), Freestyle, 3rd in the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games Flyweight (-52 kg), Freestyle. In the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games he competed for Australia, but four years later he represented Canada.
