Harry Edward

Winner of the 100 y and 220 y at the AAA Championships three times (1920-22), Harry Edward made it a triple victory in 1922 by also winning the 440 y. In 1919 and 1921 he was also a member of the winning team in the medley relay. At the 1920 Olympics, Harry Edward won bronze medals in both sprints but was forced to withdraw from the 4×100 relay after sustaining a muscle injury in the 200. As a 19-year-old student in Germany, he ran 21.7 for 200 in Berlin in 1914 but on the outbreak of World War I he was interned for the duration after which he spent four years in England during which he dominated the domestic sprint scene. On moving to New York, he built a successful career in public relations and was on the staff of the United Nations.
