Biography

Born in Belgium to sculptor and painter Louis Dupuis, Toon Dupuis was introduced to the arts by his father. He came to Den Haag in 1898 and was naturalized a decade later. From 1900-14, Toon Dupuis taught at the Academy of Graphic Arts in Den Haag, where another Olympic artist [Gra Rueb] would become one of his students. Dupuis was an acclaimed sculptor, and created many statues of historical people erected throughout the Netherlands, such as those for Queen-Regent Emma (Den Haag) Stadtholder William III (Breda) or Rembrandt (Leiden). Dupuis' bust of Peter Stuyvesant is situated on 2nd Avenue, New York City.
