Biography

Forward Nancy Drolet began playing ice hockey, the sport for which she is best known, at the age of 12, but she was also a successful national and international softball competitor at a young age, winning a silver medal at the 1991 Pan-American Games. A year later she joined the Canadian women’s national ice hockey team, took home a gold medal from the 1992 World Championships, and was named Athlete of the Year by the Canadian Sports Council for 1992. Over the course of her tenure with the squad she would capture the tournament five more times: 1994, 1997, 1999, 2000, and 2001. At both the 1997 and 2000 World Championships she scored the goals in the finals that clinched the event for the Canadians. She also journeyed with the team to the 1998 Winter Olympics for the first official Olympic women’s ice hockey tournament and brought home a silver medal after suiting up for six matches and scoring one goal. She retired from Team Canada in 2004, after twelve years with the squad. Outside of the national team she skated with the Montréal Jofa-Titan from Repentigny, Quebec. In 1999 she founded l'École de hockey Nancy Drolet, a hockey school for girls, and in April 2009 she was named president of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League. Outside of sport she works as a massage therapist in Quebec and a motivational speaker around the world.
