Tom Dooley won four AAU walk titles – the 2-mile in 1970, the 20 km. in 1971 and 1975, and the 40 km. in 1967. In the 1967 Pan American Games he finished fourth in the 20 km. walk and in the 1971 Pan American Games, he was the silver medalist in the 20 km. walk. Later he represented the US at the 1977 World Cup in the 50 km. walk, although he did not finish. It is not known if he hung down his head.
