Biography

Aleksandr Dolgushin was one of the Soviet Union's top defenders, and he helped his country win every major internationals in which he competed. In 1966 and 1970, Dolgushin and his teammates won the European title. In 1972, this was followed by the Olympic gold, having already captured silver in Mexico 1968. His medal collection was completed in 1975, when he was part of the squad that won the World Championships. Known as a solid defender, Italian opponents called him "assassino", or killer. In league play, Dolgushin played for the Navy team (CSK VMF Moskva) that won 10 titles with Dolgushin on the roster between 1964 and 1978.
