Biography

Being born on the Isle of Wight, sailing was always going to be in Eric Denham’s blood and he was selected as the foredeck hand to skipper [Robin Aisher] aboard Yeoman XII in the 5.5 metre class at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. They were never in contention after starting poorly in the opening race and a series of mishaps saw them classified in 11th place with a best finish of just sixth in races five and six. Eric emigrated to Canada in his Olympic year and continued his career as a schoolteacher. In his latter years he suffered from Alzheimer's disease before passing away in Canada, the country in which he had made his home for more than 50 years.
