Biography

Tanvir Dar was Pakistan’s penalty corner specialist during the country’s highly successful period between 1968 and 1971. Dar and Pakistan won the Olympic title in 1968, followed by the Asian Games title in 1970 and the inaugural Hockey World Cup in 1971. As a fullback, Dar won 80 caps (scoring 43 goals). He came from a hockey family, his brother Munir having won two Olympic silver medals, and his nephew Tauqir winning gold in 1984. Dar worked for the Pakistan Customs in Karachi, and died while in a coma.
