Biography

Rita Blasl was German Champion in cross-country skiing from 1957-70, but was also a useful track athlete nationally in the sprints 100 (PB 13.4), 200 (PB 28.0), and 400 metres (PB 1:02.3). After marriage she took the name Czech-Blasl. Her husband Czech-born Hans Czech was also her coach. Rita later became a sports teacher in a school in her hometown of Freiburg. She later entered politics and was a city councilwoman in Freiburg for several years.
