Biography

Among women, only her countrywoman, Elisabeta Lipa-Oleniuc, has won more Olympic rowing medals than the six won by Veronica Cochelea-Cogeanu. Lipa-Oleniuc and Cochelea-Cogeanu combined for five of these medals – 1988 doubles sculls silver medal, 1988 quadruple sculls bronze medal, 1992 double sculls silver medal, and 1996 and 2000 coxed eights gold medals. Cochelea-Cogeanu also won a silver medal with the quad in 1992. She was less successful at the World Championships, winning only one gold, that in the 1993 eight. Her 1988 Olympic appearance was as Miss Cogeanu, but she competed as Veronica Cochelea after marrying.
