Biography

Frane Cota was a Croatian architect and sculptor who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. From 1934-50 he was a professor at the Architectural Faculty of the University of Zagreb. His sculptures ranged from the Vienna Secession to Neo-Classicism. The characteristics of his work were reduced shapes and a floating modeling of the surfaces. He also produced monuments, medals and designed coins. As an architect he was a member of the school of Zagreb Functionalism, which counts among its members the outstanding personalities of Croatian architecture between the two Great Wars.
