The autodidact Theodore Champion first was an Impressionist, in 1919 he co-founded the artists association The Young Rhineland and after World War I he belonged to the Rheinische Secession. His painting style then changed several times (Neo-Impressionism, Van Gogh as a model and ideal, New Objectivity, New Romanticism). Since 1947 he taught at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf.
