John Burton played ice hockey at Harvard, graduating in 1940. After a stint in the Navy, he enrolled at the University of Minnesota law school, where he took up cross-country skiing, and he made the US ski team shortly after graduation. He has had various careers. He and his wife taught ski classes for many years, often laying out cross-country trails through the woods. John Burton worked in banking and investments, and also taught English and history at Blake School, a prep school in Minneapolis, where he also coached hockey and tennis. Throughout his life, he has remained active, competing in marathons, ultra-marathons, and playing tennis, hockey, sailing, fly fishing, and inline skating. |
