Throughout his life, Hans Bütikofer excelled in many athletic pursuits, including swimming, track and field athletics, water polo, and ice hockey. In 1935 he won the Western Series of the Swiss National Ice Hockey Championship with GG Bern, but lost to both Zürcher SC and eventual winners HC Davos in the final round. He was even more successful in 1936, when he won the Swiss national water polo championships and took silver in the four-man bobsled event at the Winter Olympics alongside [Hans Aichele], [Fritz Feierabend], and his cousin [Reto Capadrutt]. After retiring from more physically demanding sports, Bütikofer took up sport shooting and remained active in this pursuit well into his 90s. He served for many years as president and honorary president of the Swiss Olympians, an organization of former Swiss Olympic participants, and was the oldest living Swiss Olympic medalist when he died in 2011, at the age of 95.
