Biography
Like most of the 1936 British Olympic team, “Chirp” Brenchley left England for Canada at a very early age. He began playing hockey with the Niagara Falls team, but in 1935 returned to England and enjoyed a successful career with Richmond Hawks and Harringay Greyhounds. At the 1936 Olympics, Brenchley played in every match and scored a total four goals in the tournament, including the only goal in Britain’s victory over Sweden in the opening game and the vital winning goal against Canada. He eventually returned to Canada where he coached and then acted as scout for the Washington Capitols. |
