A promising skier, Isabelle Blanc switched to snowboarding in 1993, and won the inaugural Junior World Championships (slalom) the very next year. While Blanc competed for the International Snowboarding Federation (ISF), she was allowed to competed at the 1998 Winter Olympics, where snowboarding was governed by the International Skiing Federation (FIS). Blanc, winner of the 1996 ISF Slalom World Cup, was in silver medal position after the first run of the Olympic giant slalom, but fell in the second descent. The following year, Blanc won the paralell giant slalom world title. This event was also introduced at the 2002 Olympics, and Blanc won the inaugural title in the event. Blanc added a third major title in 2003, winning the parallel slalom at the World Championships. She has also won one parallel World Cup and two parallel giant slalom World Cups. She retired following the Torino Olympics, and currently has her own multi-media company. |
