Prior to winning Olympic relay gold in Rome with a new world record, Dick Blick, of North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, had won a gold medal in the 4×200 metres freestyle relay (with the non-Olympians Peter Sintz, John Rounsavelle, and Frank Winters) at the 1959 Pan American Games. He later became a swim coach and physical education teacher.
