In 1951, Bobby Bickle won the Intercity Golden Gloves title and the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions. He was supposed to fight as a featherweight at the Helsinki Olympics but moved up to the lightweight class, where he won one bout and then lost by split decision to Italy’s [Aureliano Bolognesi], who went on to win the gold medal. He turned professional in October 1952 and won his first 17 fights. He fought as a pro through October 1958, finishing with a career record of 40 wins, 11 losses, and 2 draws, but he never fought for a major title. In March 1957 Bickle knocked out Terry Lloyd in the 5th round to win the Kansas State lightweight championship.
