Rainer Berger studied sports medicine, exercise science and German. After his sports career as a sprinter as well as a bobsledder, he served as product and promotion manager at Adidas AG for world-class athletes. He then moved to Puma, serving as business line manager who was responsible for restoring the brand to prominence on the world market. Since 2008 he has worked as a lecturer at the International Business School in Nuremberg. As a sprinter he placed fourth in the 4×100 relay at the 1966 European Championships and managed to win the East German titles in 1964-67 in the sprint relay, in 1966 in the 4×200 m, and in 1964-66 and 1969 in the indoor 4×2 laps relay.
