Manfred Beer became World Champion in the relay in 1978 and 1979, also winning a bronze medal at the 1977 World Championships. Domestically he won relay titles in 1977-78 and 1980, and was runner-up 1975. Beer won a bronze medal at the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Games in the relay together with [Frank Ullrich], [Karl-Heinz Menz] and [Manfred Geyer], finishing behind the Soviet Union and Finland, and also finished 27th in the 20 km.
He later married former sport acrobat Heidi and they became parents of biathletes [Katja] and Romy Beer. The family ran a biathlon camp at Zinnwald and a small pub called “Beerenbude” after German reunification.
