Jack Besford had the following podium finishes at major championships: 2nd in the 1934 British Empire Games 100 yards Backstroke, 3rd in the 1930 British Empire Games 100 yards Backstroke, 3rd in the 1934 British Empire Games 3×110 yards Medley Relay (with Mostyn Ffrench-Williams and the non-Olympian Alan Summers); 1st in the 1934 European Championships 100 metres Backstroke. In the British Empire Games Besford represented England.
