| As a freshman at Indiana University, Greg Bell won the 1955 AAU long jump. The following year he jumped 26-6½ (8.09), a mark which to then had been bettered only by Jesse Owens. Bell then went on to win the Olympic title, and won the NCAA long jump in 1956 and 1957 and the AAU indoors in 1958. In the 1959 Pan American Games long jump he won a silver medal. He later became a dentist. Personal Bests: 220y – 20.7s (1958); 200 – 21.5 (1956); LJ – 26-6 ½ (8.10) (1957); TJ – 48-8¼ (14.84) (1960). |
