Dr. Werner Bastians later became a medical specialist for orthopaedics, chiropractic, acupuncture, and osteopathy. From 1996 he became the team doctor for the football club [BVB Borussia Dortmund] and also an orthopedist of the Olympic base camp Westphalia / Bochum and an association doctor of the German Track & Field Federation.
Bastians was primarily a 100 metre sprinter and took part in the 4×100 m relay at the 1983 World Championships and the 1977 World Cup, where he also reached the 100 m final, placing fifth each time. In 1975, 1977-78, and 1985-87 he won relay national titles. His individual titles were the 1978 and 1980 indoor 60 metres and the 1979 200 metres.
