Roberto Battaglia won a gold medal with the Italian épée team in 1952, although he only competed in the preliminary match against the Soviet Union (won 8-4), in which he won one bout out of three. In the final pool, Italy beat Sweden 8-5 to take the gold. Battaglia also won two golds (1937 and 1949), one silver and one bronze in the World Championships, and one silver (1934) in the European Championships, all in the team sabre event. Individually, he won two Italian titles with the same weapon (1942 and 1943). |
