Biography

Right centre-half Giuseppe Baldo started out in Serie A for Padova in 1932. After their relegation to Serie B he switched to Lazio Roma in 1935, where he remained until the end of his playing career, except for the 1940-41 season, when he played for Vicenza Calcio. For Lazio Roma he appeared in 169 championship matches and in another six games for the Mitropa Cup. Their best year was 1937, when they were runners-up in the national championship and reached the Mitropa Cup final. In 1936 he was selected to competed in the Olympics with the Italian amateur team. Playing in all four matches – his only in the azure shirt – earned Baldo a gold medal. After his football career he worked in sports administration for both the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and the Italian Olympic Comittee (CONI). In 2007 he was the last player of the 1936 Italian squad to die.
