Biography

Goalie Peter Åslin started his career in 1977 with Norrtälje IK. From 1979-84 he played with AIK Solna and won Swedish titles with them in 1982 and 1984. From 1984-85 Åslin played with Mora IK and he played with Leksands IF from 1985-90. In 1990 Åslin moved to HV71, playing there until 1995 and winning his third Swedish title in 1995. He then spent one season with Norrtälje IK, before playing one season in Germany with EHC Timmendorfer Strand. From 1997-98 Åslin played again with Leksands IF before finishing his career by playing half a season with Kärpät Oulu in Finland and the other half with the London Knights in England. Åslin was drafted by the St. Louis Blues of the NHL in 1981, but never played in North America.

Åslin was capped 91 times with the Swedish national team, mostly as a back-up goalie behind Peter Lindmark and Rolf Ridderwall. He won an Olympic bronze in 1988, was World Champion in 1992 and won World Championships silvers in 1986, 1990 and 1993. He also won European Championships silver in 1986 and bronze in 1989. He was awarded the Stora Grabbars Märke (Big Boys’ Badge) #147 in ice hockey. After finishing his playing career, Åslin worked as a carpenter and coached youth teams in Enebyberg and Norrtälje, but died rather young in January 2012 after multiple strokes the previous year.
