Irish-born, William Anderson moved to Scotland when only six months old. He was a member of Glasgow Olympic when placed second in the 1904 Scottish 880 yards championship behind fellow Olympian [John McGough]. He won the title in 1905 after moving to Bellahouston Harriers and, after joining Partick AC, was third in 1907. He was runner-up in the 440 yards championship in 1906-07 and in 1905 Anderson won the 880 yards in the Scotland vs. Ireland match at Edinburgh. He was killed in action while serving as a private with the Canadian contingent.
