Irish-born, William Anderson moved to Scotland when only six months old. In addition to winning the Scottish 880 y title in 1905, he placed second in 1904 and third in 1907 and in the 440 y he was the runner-up in 1906-07. In 1905 he won the 880 y in the Scotland vs. Ireland match. He was killed in action while serving as a private with the Canadian contingent.
