Biography

When only 16-years-old, Anthony “Big Boy” Andeh won the Eastern Nigerian Independent Cup as a flyweight. After competing at the 1964 Olympics, Andeh won the Northern Nigerian Lightweight Championship in 1965. His biggest title came in 1966 when he won the British Empire and Commonwealth Games gold medal as a lightweight. Andeh continued to compete as an amateur, winning five Nigerian championships – 1963-66 and 1970. Andeh turned professional very late, in 1977, at the end of the Nigerian civil war, fighting three known professional bouts from 1977-80. In his first professional fight, he won the Nigerian light-welterweight title, while in his second, he lost a bout for the Nigerian lightweight title.
