Player Photos and Name Pronunciations on Hockey Reference

7th April 2014

You may have noticed that we added player photos in the past couple of days:

In addition to these, we have added pronunciations for many player names. You can see all of them on the Pronunciation Guide page. Hopefully this helps you with some of the harder to pronounce names.

As always, let us know if you have any questions or feedback.

Player High Schools Added

4th April 2014

Just finished a project to add player high school listings for 22,000+ professional players. Players for whom we have data will now have their high school listed on their player pages. We have state-by-state listings from Alabama to Wyoming (and even foreign high schools) and we have listings of current and former players and their stats at high schools from Long Beach Polytechnic to Canton McKinley.

WNBA and D-League Updates

1st April 2014

Just a note that we've updated our WNBA stats to include the 2013 season. Likewise, we've updated our D-League stats for the current year through yesterday's games, and will continue to update these daily through the rest of the season (which ends this month, yes!)

You've probably noticed that we maintain separate pages for a player's D-League stats. You can get to each by searching the player's name in our search box - we'll show you both results. We also link to a player's D-League page from their regular NBA page:

BBR Feature Add: Practice Shot Charts

1st April 2014

Practice Shot Charts.

NBA.com has really upped the level of detail they've added, so we're trying to respond with the latest and greatest data we can get. We've recently come to an agreement with a number of franchises for access to their practice film and have begun breaking down scrimmage data.

Practice shot charts seem to us the next frontier in basketball analytics. This data will show you who's improving, who isn't, and who is working on new aspects of their game. It's especially useful for players without a lot of playing time.

Before we roll it out sidewide, we've prepared some sample charts.
